I had an unfortunate email from the military who look after Sennybridge training area (SENTRA) and if I'm honest it ruined my week. But it was good of them to tell me, rather than turn folk around whilst they were on their biggest ride ever, probably. A lot of the officials at SENTRA are cyclists and they are planning to ride Land's End to John O'Groats this year, so this was probably hard for them, too.
The long and short of it is that access across Mynydd Epynt is now looking potentially questionable for various reasons, and we needed to try and find another route around it. Like I say, I was glad for the contact, it was good of them.
The WC2C has to be slightly modified to maintain longevity of access. Here's hoping that the Welsh Forestry Commission stick to their promise not to sell or lease off their land, otherwise we'll be well snookered.
In 2011 there are 2, possibly 3, attempts planned for hitting the solo record. One of those, at least, is aiming for the winter title. The winter title is based on the "Fall Back, Spring Forward ideal as it relates to the clocks and daylight saving. One of the other attempts is probably going to be the summer one, and he'll be too quick by a long way.
This weekend was spent trying to put right the problems that are becoming probable at SENTRA. So Mark (LocoBM Racing) and I went for a recce ride up the East side of the Epynt and along parts of the Epynt way.
The route will be better for this deviation. It might be slightly tougher, and take 20mins longer (at a guess) but it is well worth it. It runs in an area that I originally tried to avoid for reason I can't remember, but now it's been checked out it has proven itself to be more worthy of being part of the updated WC2C.
It has a CRACKING descent down to Brecon, which was an absolute pig to climb on the outward journey. There is also a lot of attention concentrating singletrack and a bit of sheep dodging.
Enjoy the video clip, I'm new to this technological stuff. Once I sort out my computer I might be able to add some music.
Now that will be a treat! :)
